Natural stone carries inclusions and small irregularities. Those are a record of how it formed, not a fault in the ring.
Keep it away from knocks against hard surfaces and take it off before anything abrasive. A stone sits slightly proud of its setting, so it takes the impact first.
Clean the metal with the polishing cloth in your order. Avoid silver dips — they can get under a setting and dull the stone.
